"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!"
(Psalm 150: 6)

Worshipping the Lord is a central part of the life of every believer. In fact, true and authentic worship should permeate every aspect of our lives. One way to worship the Lord is through God's gift of music. The Worship Ministry at West Jackson Street Baptist Church exists to give honor and glory due to the Father, to exalt and magnify Jesus Christ our Savior, to draw God's people into a deeper fellowship with Him, and to reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you are interested in volunteering, please know that there is place for you in the Worship Ministry!

"Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the sound of the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals! Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!"
(Psalm 150: 3-6)

While singing to the Lord is one way of worshipping, playing a musical instrument is another form of worship as well (1 Chronicles 15). Comprised of a variety of instruments, including piano, keyboards, guitars, drums, percussion, woodwinds, and brass, our band and orchestra play a prominent role during our Sunday morning worship services. The Worship Band/Orchestra at West Jackson Street Baptist Church instrumentally leads our congregation in Sunday worship at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
(Colossians 3:17)

The Technical Ministry at West Jackson Street Baptist Church exists not only to bring honor and glory to the Father and to Jesus Christ by providing quality sound, video, and lighting but also by creating a suitable environment in which God's people are free to worship. Welcome to West Jackson Street Baptist Church Preschool Ministries!

Put simply, WJSBC believes that children are a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). And, while we understand that the primary responsibility for spiritual development of a child is within their home, we also understand that it is the church's responsibility to provide a ministry to back-up both the fundamental and biblical basics for both you and your preschooler.

It is a humbling honor to be entrusted with the care of these precious children. At WJSBC, you can be assured that a faithful and caring team of teachers awaits each and every child as we have prepared a safe, loving and nurturing environment for your preschooler.

So, whether you are a member, a visitor or someone searching for a church home, know that WJSBC is committed to meeting your preschool needs.

Love in Him,
Lisa Hofmister
Director of Preschool Ministries

Youth
PDF Print E-mail
The Youth Ministry of West Jackson Street has a heart for God which is pumping with energy and passion to reach teenagers with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that God is going to use these young men and women to do earth-shaking, life changing things in this world for the Kingdom of God.

We use a series of ongoing weekly activities: Sunday School, Wednesday night Youth Worship and Bible Study sessions, a prayer breakfast, and more. Biblical truths are embedded and conveyed in each of these activities, presented in a way that helps young people create and sustain a Christian foundation that will prepare them for adulthood.

Our Youth Ministry is designed to create life change in teenagers, and enables them to become life changers themselves in their everyday lives. Young people enjoy and grow together in a Christian walk through a schedule of summer activities, Disciple Now Weekends, camps, mission trips, and retreats, and other forums of fellowship.

Proverbs 31:30

OUR PURPOSE

The main purpose of WJSBC’s Women’s Ministry is to minister to the many needs of women of WJSBC and of our community as wives, daughters, sisters and friends and to equip them for service to our Lord.

The three main ways to accomplish this purpose is through Bible Study, Prayer and Ministry Opportunities.

Our Goals

  1. To learn from God’s Word how to be all He wants us to be.
  2. To apply God’s principles in every area of our lives.
  3. To be used of God in service, ministry and missions.
  4. To help our church grow spiritually..
  5. To encourage our women to discover, develop and use their spiritual gifts.
  6. To help women feel loved and accepted.
  7. To open the doors to relationships within the home, church and community.
  8. To minister to women in every area of their lives.
  9. To teach our women how to minister to others.
  10. To help women fight spiritual battles.
  11. To help women to be better wives, mothers, daughters and friends.

Education
PDF Print E-mail

One of the best ways to get involved at West Jackson Street is through a Bible Study class. Our Seasons of Life Sunday School offers classes for every age, from preschool through senior adult. West Jackson Street can seem to be a large place--and one way we keep the feel of a small church is through the close-knit fellowship, friendships and caring that is a part of our Sunday School.

Sunday School is available weekly 9:00 a.m. Every class has at the heart two primary elements. One is solid teaching from the Bible. Sunday School is designed to help you learn from God's Word. The other is small groups. In Sunday School you'll find a small group of folks just like you. You'll meet in a setting where you can get to really know them.

To see a listing of classes offered at West Jackson Street that meet your needs, click on the Seasons of Life in the "Ministries" menu.

Sunday Afternoon Opportunities

The "Way of the Master": As the name implies, this is basic training - simple and practical, with nothing complex and no big heavy books to read. These basic principles are easy to learn. By Following these principles, you will learn how to share your faith simply, effectively, biblically... the way Jesus did. This will occur each Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., starting March 30th.

Missions

Nicaragua5

Missions are also a vital part of the ministry at West Jackson Street. As a part of the Cooperative Program through the Southern Baptist Convention we support missionaries both in foreign lands and also in the United States. There are opportunities for mission trips, both home and away, plus opportunities to give through the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong Offering.

Celebrate Recovery

celebraterecovery

celebraterecovery2

The purpose of WJSBC’s Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the "8 Recovery Principles". This experience allows us to be changed. By working and applying the Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom allows us to experience peace, serenity, joy and most important, a strong relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program, we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.

Recovery Principles

Based on the BEATITUDES

by Pastor Rick Warren

Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.

Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor. Matthew 5:3

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.

Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.

Happy are the meek. Matthew 5:5

Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust.

Happy are the pure in heart. Matthew 5:8

Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires. Matthew 5:6

Evaluate all my relationships; offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others.

Happy are the merciful. Matthew 5:7

Happy are the peacemakers. Matthew 5:9

Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.

Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires. Matthew 5:10
